Coming home

Home...for some a place of rest, comfort and belonging; for others, a place of pain and despair. But what does coming home feel like? We are reminded in the book of Luke about the prodigal son that left his home and while out and about lost his wealth, his youth and his hope. The place he had longed to leave now brought memories of hope and love. He was not sure what to expect; yet, upon his decision to return we are told, "And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him" (Luke 15:20, English Standard Version).

The response he received was not something he had anticipated; but, it brought back a glimmer of hope and a place of belonging. This parable reminds us that we are created for fellowship. We belong to the household of our heavenly Father. He has made the way for us to return home, in our brokenness, we can find restoration and healing. He is waiting eagerly for your return. Will you accept his invitation?
