Loving

“You have said, ‘Seek my face’ My heart says to you, Your face, Lord, do I seek” - Psalm 27:8

What beautiful conversation completely engaged and fully present. Life carries us from moment to moment, place to place and busyness to tiredness; yet, in all that encompasses life there is a unique moment one where the voice of the one you love could stand out clearly in the midst of anything. It is a moment where you are truly present. David heard God, but couldn’t see Him. He called “seek my face” and with longing expectation he looked to which he replied, “Your face, Lord, do I seek” There could have been a million people or things attempting to distract him but his longing expectation and desire was not only to hear but also see the face of the one he loved.

A mother who is expecting a child can say that hearing her child’s first cry and seeing their face was one of the most priceless and unique moments they ever experienced. The child who is crying once given to the mother and placed on her will hear her heartbeat to which they will calm down and peacefully go to sleep. There are many examples of what loving really means: it can be a military spouse returning home, a couple exchanging vows, a child seeing their parent after a surgery, a cancer patient seeing their loved ones for the last time. Loving is simple, it is present, it engages and it longs.

In Song of Solomon we read, “…scarcely had I passed by them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go…” (3:4). Sincere loving is not one that is strange to the person but one that is a heart’s desire and its cry. God put that into our lives. In Ecclesiastes, we read, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has set eternity into man’s heart, so that he cannot find out what God has done from beginning to end” (3:11). Loving for eternity. The place that everyone longs for…..God set that in our hearts so we can know where to seek His face, where to find Him. You can see throughout history and time that man has always longed to see what is beyond our view, in the heavens, in space yet they cannot understand that their heart longs for its true love, God. He lies in eternity, there is no beginning or end and it is our hearts desire to seek out that love that is always faithful and unchanging that longs to hold us and never let us go.

Beloved, I pray that you will not only understand what loving Is but also know that God’s love will embrace you and hold you through everything you face. Life, this present life, will never be perfect but He has placed eternity in our hearts where He abides. Seek Him and He will be found; your heart will not let you deny His presence. “I slept, but my heart was awake. A sound! My beloved is knocking” (Song of Solomon 5:2)
